Basant Panchami 2023: What Is It All About?

Goddess Saraswathi’s Worship is an indispensable part of our worship, and academic pursuits. Basant Panchami is the day when children are made to write and learn their first words in the presence of Saraswathi Mata in the puja room.  Celebrated as Sri Panchami in Southern States as Saraswathi puja in the eastern regions, and Basant Panchami in northern regions in the country, the Basant Panchami festival brings the spring season along with it. Preparations for Holi festival, which falls after 40 days of Basant Panchami 2023 celebrations, begin around the same time of Basant Panchami.


Date and Puja Shubh Muhurat

Basant Panchami is celebrated on the Panchami tithi of the month of Magh with the festival date changing accordingly, every year. Magh month's Panchami date starts on January 25, 2023 at 12.34 pm and lasts up to 10.28 am. The auspicious time for Saraswathi Puja on January 26, Vasant Panchami, is from 07:12 am to 12:34 pm. We have around 05 hours’ time to be utilized for Saraswathi Puja.


Worship of Goddess Saraswathi on Vasant Panchami

• Firstly, install the Saraswathi photo on a wooden chowki and place an idol of Lord Ganesha on it as he has to be worshipped before the Saraswathi puja begins.

• At the feet of the Saraswathi idol, keep your books, musical instruments, painting accessories or other creative tools.

• Pour water inside the Kalasha, envelop it with mango leaves and keep it on the chowki.

• Using Turmeric, draw a swastika symbol on the plate and also place sweets meant as Prasad, on this plate.

• Light a Diya with oil and perform dhooparadhana.

• Firstly, Ganesha mantra Chant should be chanted and then the puja begins.

• When Dhooparadhana and deeparadhana and shodasha upachara puja with yellow flowers conclude, Saraswathi Vandana should be conducted.

• Mantra, Aarti mantra, and Saraswathi stotra have to be recited at this point.

• Chant other mantras of Goddess Saraswathi as well. Worship of Goddess Saraswathi on Vasant Panchami is done in the above manner every year by devotees.


Significance of Vasant Panchami

Basant Panchami was the day Mother Sharda, the symbol of art and knowledge appeared for the first time, to bestow knowledge and powers of speech to the world. Turmeric garlands offered along with basic mantras on Basant Panchami are known to sharpen the intellect. Most Schools and colleges offer their prayers to her before beginning the classes. Mother Goddess’ birth anniversary is celebrated in the name of Basant Panchami. Significance of Vasant Panchami can not be explained in words.


Astrological Yogas Formed On Basant Panchami

Four the auspicious yoga’s are formed on the day of Basant Panchami.

1. Shiv Yoga: Shiva Yoga starts at 03.10 am and lasts up to 03.29 pm on January 26. Meditation and worship should be carried out extensively during this period.

2. Siddha Yoga: The extremely auspicious Siddha Yoga starts at the end of Shiv Yoga which will continue for the whole night.

3. Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga: Starting at 06:57 in the evening on January 26, and extending up to 07:12 am the next day, the Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga blesses all ventures started at this time with success and prosperity.

4. Ravi Yoga: Extending from 06:57 in the evening to 07:12 in the morning of the next day this Ravi Yoga, blesses all efforts with success by the grace of Ravi or Sun God. It is an auspicious day where evils are eliminated from your life.
